The Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) Girls Scholarship Program is about more than just financial support. It is a comprehensive initiative designed to equip female scholars with the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to excel in their careers. A key component of this program is professional mentoring, which includes company visits to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world industry practice.
Recently, scholars enrolled in the Water & Sanitation Technology program were hosted by Iriba Water Group Ltd., a Rwandan social enterprise renowned for providing innovative water solutions. The visit was a hands-on learning experience that allowed the students to see how a business operates within their sector.
During the tour, the students gained deep insights into Iriba's business model and operations. They had the opportunity to:
Explore the Water Laboratory: Students observed the processes of water purification and quality control, understanding the scientific principles behind delivering clean, safe water. Learn about the "Tap&Drink" System: They were introduced to Iriba's signature system of water ATMs and kiosks, which provides affordable and accessible water to communities and schools. Engage with Professionals: An interactive session allowed the scholars to ask questions and learn from industry experts about their career paths, daily challenges, and the skills needed to succeed in the water sector.
This experience not only broadened the students' technical understanding but also provided them with invaluable networking opportunities. It gave them a clearer vision of potential internship and employment opportunities after graduation.
The visit to Iriba Water Group is one of many initiatives under the RP Girls Scholarship Program that aims to empower young women in technical fields. By exposing them to inspiring role models and successful companies, the program ensures that its scholars are well-equipped to become future leaders and innovators in their respective industries.
